Fixing Break Free Not Working When You Switch Items

Check the basics first

If switching items still resets your block, confirm the mod is actually loaded. Open your mods list and make sure Break Free appears and is enabled. Because it is a one-mixin mod, it depends on the mixin system being active in your loader; if mixins are disabled or another mod conflicts with the same vanilla method, the behavior can silently fail.

Common causes

1. Another mod overrides the same behavior. Mods that change mining, block breaking, or item switching can conflict. Try running with only Break Free plus your loader to see if it works in isolation.

2. You released the attack button. Break Free preserves progress across item switches, not across letting go of attack. If you stop attacking, vanilla still resets the block.

3. You switched targets. Moving your crosshair off the block and onto a different one starts a new break, which is expected.

4. Client/server mismatch. On a server, the server still validates block breaking. If the server does not have the mod, some behavior may not carry over even if your client shows progress.

To test, find a single block, hold attack, switch items mid-break, and watch whether the crack overlay persists. If it resets, work through the list above one item at a time.
