Customizing Top and Bottom Culling Settings in Bocchium

Bocchium lets you decide which block faces get culled at the top and bottom of the world. This is useful when you build in the void, use custom dimensions, or run skyblock-style maps where the underside of blocks is actually visible.

Finding the Options

Open the mod's config through your mod loader's config menu. The top and bottom culling settings are separate toggles, so you can enable one without the other. Read each label carefully — one controls upward-facing culling, the other controls downward-facing culling.

Choosing the Right Setting

  • If you play normal survival and never see the world floor, leave both enabled for maximum performance.
  • If you build floating islands or play on a skyblock map, disable bottom culling so the undersides of your platforms still render.
  • If you use a custom dimension with an open sky and visible ceiling, disable top culling instead.

Applying Changes

Save the config and reload the world. Culling changes apply when chunks are rebuilt, so walk away from an area and return, or use your render-distance slider to force a refresh. If something looks wrong, re-enable the toggle and reload again — the change is fully reversible and does not affect saved blocks.
