How to Breed Trees with Binnie's Mods
Understanding Tree Breeding Basics
Binnie's Mods extends the tree breeding system from Forestry. You start by obtaining saplings and analyzing them with a treealyzer to see their species and traits. Place saplings in a tree nursery or use a manual breeding setup with bees pollinating nearby leaves. Binnie's trees require pollination from bees to produce new saplings with mutated genetics.
Cross-Breeding for New Species
To create a new tree species, plant two different parent trees close together and ensure bees are active nearby to pollinate the leaves. When leaves are pollinated, they may drop saplings of a new species. Collect these saplings and analyze them. Some species require specific conditions like altitude, temperature, or humidity. If a mutation is not appearing, try adjusting the biome or using different parent combinations.
Managing Traits
Binnie's trees carry traits such as growth speed, sapling drop rate, and fruit yield. Once you have a new species, breed it with itself or with other trees to pass on desirable traits. Use a treealyzer to confirm traits before planting large orchards. Keep a written or in-game record of which combinations produced which results, because tree breeding can involve many generations.
Practical Setup
- Plant parent trees in a grid with space for bees to reach the leaves.
- Use apiaries with bees that have good pollination speed.
- Harvest leaves carefully; shears or a grafter improve sapling drop chances.
- Store saplings by species in labeled chests.
