Crafting with Fireruby Pickaxe and Silk Touch
Understanding
Fireruby Pickaxe Behavior
The Fireruby Pickaxe is a powerful mining tool in Better Nether, but it has special enchantment rules. When you apply Silk Touch to this pickaxe, it will not smelt ores as you mine them. This is intentional—the mod prevents auto-smelting when Silk Touch is active.
Mining Strategy
If you want raw ore blocks (for later smelting or processing):
- Enchant your Fireruby Pickaxe with Silk Touch
- Mine ores normally; they'll drop as blocks instead of smelted materials
If you want instant smelted resources:
- Use the Fireruby Pickaxe without Silk Touch
- Ores will smelt automatically as you break them
Choosing Your Approach
Silk Touch is useful when you need ore blocks for decoration, storage, or later batch-smelting. Without it, you get immediate smelted materials but lose the ore block. Plan your enchantment based on your current needs and available furnace space.
