Obtain Your First Trident

Finding Elder Guardians

To craft a trident, you need Trident Fragments, which only drop from Elder Guardians in Ocean Monuments. You'll need to defeat all three Elder Guardians in a single monument—each one drops one fragment when killed.

Locate an Ocean Monument by exploring deep ocean biomes. Bring water breathing potions, healing items, and a strong weapon. Elder Guardians deal significant damage and apply Mining Fatigue, so prepare accordingly.

Crafting the Trident

Once you have all three Trident Fragments, gather Prismarine Shards. These drop from Guardians (the smaller mobs surrounding the monument) and can also be found in ocean ruins.

Place your three Trident Fragments and two Prismarine Shards in a crafting table in the correct pattern to create your trident. You now have a weapon that can be thrown and retrieved, and it's repairable with additional Prismarine Shards at an anvil.

Next Steps

Consider enchanting your new trident with Loyalty to make it return automatically when thrown, and add Impaling for increased damage against wet mobs.
