How to Take Cinematic Screenshots and Shots with Better Third Person

Setting up a shot

Cinematic framing in Minecraft usually means the camera moves independently of the player. Better Third Person gives you exactly that.

1. Enter third person view.

2. Position your character where you want them in frame (standing on a cliff, mid-swing, etc.).

3. Rotate the camera with the mouse until you find an angle. Because rotation is independent, you can place the camera behind, beside, or in front of your character without turning them.

4. Use F1 to hide the HUD if you want a clean image, then take a screenshot with your usual screenshot key.

Moving shots

For video or animated captures:

  • Hold a movement key to walk while slowly dragging the mouse to pan the camera. Your character keeps their facing, so the walk looks natural while the camera glides.
  • Use diagonal movement (two keys at once) to arc around a subject.
  • For mounted shots, ride a horse or pig — the mod supports vehicles, so the camera still rotates freely while you ride.

Swimming and elytra

While swimming or flying with an elytra, the camera remains independent. This is ideal for underwater reveal shots or aerial fly-bys where you want the camera trailing behind the player rather than locked to their heading.

Practical notes

  • Actions like breaking or placing a block will re-align your body to the camera, so plan those outside the moment you are capturing.
  • Keep mouse sensitivity moderate so pans stay smooth.
