How to Ride Horses, Pigs, Swim, and Fly with the Free Camera
Vehicles (horses and pigs)
Better
Third Person supports mounted movement, which is where independent
camera rotation shines.
1. Mount your horse or pig as usual.
2. Enter
third person view.
3. Rotate the
camera freely with the mouse. The mount's heading is controlled by your movement keys, not by the
camera, so you can look sideways or behind while riding forward.
4. Steer with WASD. Because movement is camera-relative, pressing forward moves the mount in the direction the
camera faces — so point the
camera where you want to go, then hold forward.
This makes it easy to ride past scenery while filming it, or to keep an eye on pursuers behind you.
Swimming
While in water, the
camera stays independent. You can swim in one direction while looking in another — handy for scanning for guardians or cave openings while moving.
Elytra flying
With an elytra equipped and in flight, the camera rotates freely. You can:
- Look down at the terrain while gliding forward.
- Turn the camera to check your surroundings without changing your glide path.
- Combine with diagonal movement for gentle course corrections.
General tips
- Actions like placing fireworks or blocks will re-align your body to the camera, so aim before acting.
- If the camera feels disorienting, briefly perform an action to snap your body back to the camera direction and re-orient.
