Creating a Carved Melon

Place a melon block and use shears on it. This hollows out the block, creating a carved melon that's ready to be turned into a light source.

Adding Light

Hold a torch, glowstone, or redstone bulb in your hand, then right-click the carved melon. The melon will activate and begin emitting light, creating a decorative glowing lantern. Different light sources may produce slightly different visual effects.

Decorative Applications

Carved melon lanterns work well in gardens, pathways, and building exteriors. Yellow and green melon variants offer different aesthetic options to match your build's color scheme. You can carve multiple melons and arrange them in patterns for dramatic lighting effects.

Harvesting the Rind

If you use shears on a hollow melon half instead of lighting it, you'll obtain a wearable rind helmet. This gives you a choice: prioritize decoration with light, or prioritize the protective gear.
