How to Tell Which Enchanted Book Is Which at a Glance

Why the Vanilla Book Fools You

In vanilla, every enchanted book uses the same purple-glowing texture, so the only way to identify one is to hover over it. This pack gives each enchantment its own distinct cover art and a shared color family based on theme, so you can read a chest or a shulker box without opening a single tooltip.

Reading the Covers

1. Open any container holding enchanted books — a chest, barrel, shulker box, or your own inventory.

2. Look at the cover illustration first. Each enchantment has unique artwork, so the shape and motif on the front is your primary identifier.

3. Use the color tone as a secondary cue. Books are grouped by theme or intended use, so related enchantments share a palette. Combat-oriented books will read as one family, utility and protection books as another, and so on.

4. Once you learn the palette, you can sweep your eyes across a row of books and sort them by category before reading individual covers.

5. Hover only to confirm the exact level when two books share a similar look.

Practical Sorting Tips

  • Keep books of the same color family in adjacent slots so your storage reads as blocks of color.
  • When trading with villagers or looting structures, glance at the color first to decide whether a book is worth picking up.
  • If you play with a friend, agree on the color families so you both sort the same way.
