Reducing Mod Size and Load Times with Templates

How Template Textures Work

Instead of storing individual texture files for every material variant, BASE Mod uses a single template texture per resource type. A grayscale template is overlaid with a color layer to create the final appearance. One copper ingot texture file becomes dozens of different material ingots through color variation alone.

Performance Benefits

This approach dramatically reduces:

  • Total mod file size
  • Texture memory usage
  • Game load times

Your modpack downloads faster and your game starts quicker.

For Resource Pack Creators

If you're making a resource pack, you only edit the template files. Changes automatically apply to all materials using that template. Want to redesign how all ingots look? Edit one file. This is far more efficient than modifying hundreds of individual textures.

Customization

You can still create unique textures for specific materials if needed, but the template system handles the bulk of visual generation automatically.
