Using AutoSwitch Without Losing Track of Your Inventory

AutoSwitch moves items between slots, which can be disorienting if you rely on muscle memory for your hotbar layout. A few habits keep things predictable.

Keep a stable hotbar layout

Reserve fixed slots for your main tool, weapon, and building block. The mod will still swap the held item, but if your tools live in consistent slots you'll always know where they are when you reach for them manually. Avoid letting the mod pull from the main inventory if you have a carefully organized hotbar — hotbar-only scope keeps everything in place.

Watch the swap-back setting

With swap-back enabled, the mod returns you to your previous slot after the action. That's great for mining trips where you want to keep holding your sword. With it disabled, the tool stays in hand — better for long mining sessions where you're breaking hundreds of blocks in a row. Pick one and stick with it so your hands know what to expect.

Sorting and restocking

If the mod searches your inventory, it may select a tool from a slot you forgot about. Periodically sort your inventory so the tools you *want* used are the ones it finds first. When a tool breaks, the mod will fall back to the next valid candidate — keep a spare in the hotbar if you're far from base.

If a swap ever feels like it "stole" an item, check your offhand and armor slots too; some setups consider those.
