How to Configure AutoSwitch to Only Swap Tools When It Makes Sense
AutoSwitch is at its best when it swaps to the *right* tool and not just *a* tool. The default behavior already picks a matching tool for the block you're breaking, but you can tune it so it doesn't fight you during normal play.
Understand what triggers a swap
The mod watches what you're targeting. When you start breaking a block, it looks through your hotbar (and optionally your inventory, depending on your settings) for the tool that matches that block's preferred harvest type. When you attack a mob, it looks for your best weapon. If nothing suitable is found, it leaves your current slot alone.
Tune the behavior
Open the mod's config screen from the mod list or its keybind. The settings you'll care about most:
- Search scope — restrict swapping to the hotbar only, or let it pull from the main inventory. Hotbar-only is safer and faster; inventory-wide is more convenient but can shuffle items around.
- Swap back — enable this if you want your previous slot restored after the action finishes. Disable it if you'd rather keep the tool in hand.
- Whitelist / blacklist — exclude specific tools or blocks from triggering swaps. Useful if you have a favorite pickaxe you don't want auto-selected, or a block you always want to break by hand.
Test by breaking a few different
blocks in a safe area and watching which slot gets selected.
