How to Configure Async Particles Culling So You Keep Visuals but Gain FPS
Understand what culling does
Particle culling skips rendering particles that are outside your field of view, behind terrain, or too far away to notice. Done aggressively it saves the most frames but can cause visible pop-in. The goal is to find the point where you stop noticing missing particles but still gain performance.
Steps
1. Open the Async Particles config from the Mods menu.
2. Start with culling enabled at its default setting and play normally for a few minutes in a particle-heavy area.
3. Watch for particles appearing suddenly at the edge of your vision or when you turn quickly. That is the sign culling is too tight.
4. Increase the culling distance or angle gradually until the pop-in disappears. Change one value at a time so you know what caused the difference.
5. Keep asynchronous ticking and buffer filling on regardless of your culling settings; they do not affect visuals.
6. Re-test in the situations where you care most, such as combat with effect particles or standing in rain.
When to disable culling
If you record cinematic footage or use particles for visual feedback in combat, you may prefer culling off and rely only on the async features. You will lose some FPS but keep every particle visible.
