Transition from Ranged to Melee Combat
Use Ranged Weapons to Control Engagement
Start fights at range using Bows, Longbows, Crossbows, or Arbalests to damage enemies before they close the gap. Javelins are particularly useful for hitting mobs mid-approach, softening them up before melee contact.
Switch Weapons When Enemies Close In
Once enemies reach you, quickly swap to your melee weapon. Fast weapons like Daggers or Knuckles let you maintain pressure while backing away. If you're confident in your defense, switch to a heavy weapon for finishing blows.
This hybrid approach works well against mixed enemy groups. Ranged weapons handle distant threats while melee weapons deal with close-range attackers. Practice your weapon-switching timing to minimize the moment you're vulnerable during the swap. Consider your shield choice too—a Buckler lets you stay mobile while switching, while a War Door provides better protection if you need to stand your ground.
