How to Tell Which Armor Piece Is About to Break Using Armor Chroma

The vanilla armor bar tells you how much protection you have but not which slot is failing. Armor Chroma's per-material icons let you narrow that down fast, which matters when you are far from a base.

Watch for icon changes

Because each icon reflects the material of the piece supplying that armor point, a piece breaking changes the row's appearance. When a helmet shatters, the icons it contributed disappear or shift, and the remaining icons may re-tint to match the next piece down. Any sudden change in the row's pattern after a fight is your cue to check durability.

Confirm in the inventory

Open your inventory and hover each armor slot. Durability bars are shown there. Compare against what the HUD implied: if the HUD lost a chunk of icons and one slot is nearly empty, you have found the culprit. Repair or replace that piece before continuing.

Practical habits

Carry spare pieces of your main material so a swap keeps the HUD row uniform and easy to read. After any extended combat or fall, glance at the bar before moving on. Treating the HUD as an early warning rather than a precise durability meter keeps you from being surprised mid-fight.
