How to Repair a Damaged Anvil in Place (Without Crafting a New One)
What you need
You only need two things: a damaged anvil that is already placed in the world, and at least one iron ingot in your inventory. You do not need a crafting table, and you do not need to break the anvil.
Step-by-step
1. Find the anvil you want to fix. Any anvil that shows visible damage (chips, cracks, or a partial state) can be repaired.
2. Hold an iron ingot in your main hand. Make sure you are not sneaking, since sneaking can change how some interactions behave.
3. Right-click the anvil with the ingot. The anvil will visually step back one damage stage toward its pristine look.
4. Check your inventory: one iron ingot is consumed per repair step.
5. Repeat the right-click for each remaining damage stage until the anvil looks fully intact.
Notes and tips
- Each right-click only restores a single stage, so a heavily worn anvil may need several ingots.
- Repairing does not change the anvil's position or orientation, so it is safe to do on an anvil that is already part of a build.
- If the anvil is already undamaged, the ingot will not be used.
- Keep a small stack of iron ingots in your hotbar if you maintain anvils around a base or shop area.
