How to Fine-Tune an Anvil's Damage Level (Back and Forth Safely)

The idea

Anvils have several visual damage stages between pristine and heavily worn. This mod lets you move up and down those stages freely, so you can dial in exactly the look you want.

Doing it

1. Decide your target look: brand new, lightly used, or heavily battered.

2. To add wear, right-click the anvil with obsidian. Each right-click moves it one stage more damaged.

3. To remove wear, right-click the anvil with an iron ingot. Each right-click moves it one stage less damaged and consumes the ingot.

4. Alternate between the two as needed until the anvil matches your build.

Things to keep in mind

  • Obsidian is reusable, so adding damage costs you nothing after the first piece.
  • Iron ingots are consumed, so plan your repairs if iron is scarce.
  • You cannot push an anvil past its final damage stage, and you cannot repair past fully intact. The mod simply stops at the ends.
  • Damaging never destroys the block, so there is no risk in experimenting.
  • This is handy when you want a row of anvils at slightly different wear levels to make a forge area feel lived-in.
