How to Damage an Anvil on Purpose for Aesthetic Builds
Why you would do this
Damaged anvils look worn and used, which suits blacksmith shops, abandoned forges, ruins, and industrial builds. This mod lets you add that wear on purpose instead of waiting for random damage.
Step-by-step
1. Place the anvil where you want it in your build and orient it the way you like.
2. Obtain a piece of obsidian. Any obsidian works; it is used as a tool, not as a material.
3. Hold the obsidian in your main hand and right-click the anvil.
4. The anvil will advance one damage stage, showing more visible wear.
5. Right-click again to push it further along the damage stages if you want a more battered look.
Important behavior
- The obsidian is not consumed, so a single piece can be reused on as many anvils as you like.
- Damaging an anvil will never destroy it. You cannot accidentally break the block this way, so you can experiment freely.
- If you overshoot and want a cleaner look, switch to an iron ingot and right-click to walk the damage back one stage at a time.
- Because the block is never destroyed, this is safe to use on anvils that are already placed in finished builds.
