Toggling Auto-Smelt Mode

Coal tools come with built-in auto-smelt abilities that process blocks as you mine them. To activate this feature, hold a coal tool in your hand and press Shift (Crouch). You'll see the tool enter auto-smelt mode—it stays active until you toggle it off the same way.

Which Tools Do What

Each coal tool processes different materials:

• Coal Pickaxe: Smelts metal ores directly into ingots
• Coal Shovel: Converts sand and red sand into glass blocks
• Coal Axe: Turns chopped logs into charcoal
• Coal Hoe: Harvests crops and kelp in their finished forms (cooked or dried)

Mining Strategy

Toggle auto-smelt on before entering a mining session to collect processed items instantly. This saves furnace time and inventory space. Remember that auto-smelt mode consumes tool durability faster than normal mining, so plan accordingly. You can toggle the mode on and off as needed during your trip to conserve durability when processing isn't necessary.
