How to Use the Wrench to Rotate Blocks Without Breaking Them

What the Wrench Does

The wrench is a utility tool that rotates certain blocks in place, letting you change their facing without mining and replacing them. This is perfect for aligning stairs, logs, pistons, observers, and other directional blocks in builds where re-breaking would ruin redstone wiring or aesthetics.

How to Rotate a Block

1. Craft the wrench (check the mod's recipe in JEI/REI).

2. Hold the wrench and right-click the block you want to turn.

3. Each right-click rotates the block to the next facing. Sneak-right-click if you need to rotate in the opposite direction or cycle differently.

Because the block is never broken, any stored contents, redstone state, or attached components stay intact. This makes the wrench invaluable for fine-tuning contraptions, fixing a mis-aimed observer, or reorienting decorative logs and copper patina blocks.

Tips

  • Use it on copper blocks after applying patina to orient the weathered texture the way you want.
  • Combine with amethyst lamps and chemical lights to angle light sources precisely.
  • Keep a wrench in your hotbar while building; it saves enormous time versus pickaxe-and-replace cycles.
