How to Craft and Use the Wrench to Rotate Blocks

Crafting the Wrench

To get started with block rotation, you first need to craft the Wrench. The recipe uses a combination of iron ingots and copper ingots arranged in a standard tool-like pattern on a crafting table. Once crafted, the Wrench functions as a reusable tool rather than a consumable, so you only need one.

Rotating Blocks In-Game

Hold the Wrench in your main hand and right-click any rotatable block to cycle through its available orientations. This works on blocks like stairs, logs, pistons, observers, and many decorative blocks that normally require you to break and replace them to change direction. Each right-click advances the block to the next valid rotation state.

This is especially useful when building detailed structures where you want logs to face a specific direction, or when you misplace a stair and don't want to destroy it. The Wrench does not consume durability in the traditional sense, so you can rotate as many blocks as you like without worrying about it breaking.

Tips

  • Sneak while right-clicking if you want to avoid accidentally rotating a block you meant to interact with normally.
  • Combine the Wrench with building mods for even faster decoration work.
  • Keep one in your hotbar during large builds so you never have to break a block just to flip it.
