True Light Shaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on True Light Shaders?
True Light Shaders is a shader pack, so it needs a shader loader such as Iris or OptiFine. Put the pack in your shaderpacks folder, then open Video Settings, go to Shader Packs, select True Light Shaders and apply it.
Why does my game look exactly the same after selecting True Light Shaders?
Check that Iris or OptiFine is actually loaded and that shaders are switched on in the Shader Packs menu, not just that the pack is listed. Also keep in mind that the pack is meant to keep the vanilla look, so the main change is soft shadows across blocks and terrain. Compare a sunny area with shaders off and then on to see the difference.
Will True Light Shaders run on my low-end PC or laptop?
Yes, it is designed to run smoothly on budget computers and older hardware. It adds clean shadows and natural lighting changes without overloading your system. If your frame rate still dips, lowering your render distance is usually the quickest fix.
Does True Light Shaders change how Minecraft looks a lot?
No. It keeps the original vanilla art style and adds subtle soft shadows and lighting adjustments instead of dramatic effects. Your world still looks like Minecraft, just with more depth.
Do I need Iris or OptiFine, or can I use True Light Shaders on its own?
You need a shader loader. Minecraft can't load shader packs by itself, so install Iris or OptiFine first and pick True Light Shaders through its shader menu.
Can I use True Light Shaders on a multiplayer server?
Yes. Shaders are purely client-side visuals, so you can use them on any server without the server installing anything. Other players won't see your shaders unless they run them too.
How can I make my builds look better with True Light Shaders?
Use depth in your designs, such as overhangs, recessed windows, layered walls and stairs or slabs that stick out. The soft shadows fall into those gaps and make the build look more three-dimensional, so flat walls benefit the least.
Will True Light Shaders lag when I'm exploring or building big projects?
It is built to keep frame rates stable during both exploration and building. Big performance drops usually come from a high render distance or other heavy mods, so reduce those first if you notice stutter.
Can I use True Light Shaders with resource packs?
Generally yes. Because the shader keeps the vanilla style, it pairs naturally with vanilla-like resource packs, and the shadows apply on top of whatever textures you use.
How do I switch True Light Shaders off if I want to compare or troubleshoot?
Open Video Settings, go to Shader Packs, and select the option to turn shaders off, then apply. You can switch back to True Light Shaders from the same menu at any time without restarting your world.
