How do I turn on Nightmare Fuel Shaders?
Nightmare Fuel is a shader pack, so it runs through your shader loader. Open Options > Video Settings > Shader Packs, select Nightmare Fuel from the list, and apply it. If the Shader Packs menu is missing, you don't have a shader loader running.
How do I turn the shaders off fast if it gets too much?
Go back to the Shader Packs menu and pick the off/none option, which instantly restores normal visuals. Some shader loaders also have a toggle-shaders keybind, so check your Controls menu and bind it before you start a run.
Is the screen supposed to warp and wobble like that or is it bugged?
The distortion is intentional. The pack warps the screen on purpose to disorient your movement, and that is the core of the challenge. Visual glitches like black screens or missing terrain are a different problem and usually point to a loader or graphics driver issue.
Why are caves and nights so much darker and weirder than normal?
Nightmare Fuel changes standard lighting so dark areas look creepy and unpredictable, so you can't rely on your usual sense of how bright an area is. Carry far more light sources than usual and place them generously to mark safe paths and exits.
How do I cross ravines and cliffs without falling because of the distortion?
Hold sneak near edges, because vanilla sneaking stops you from walking off blocks even when your view is warped. Move in short steps, and bridge or pillar across gaps instead of jumping, since the visual interference makes judging distance unreliable.
Does Nightmare Fuel change mobs, world generation or my save?
No. It's a shader pack that only alters graphics, lighting and screen effects, so biomes look harsh and unsettling but play the same underneath. Turning it off returns your world to its normal look with nothing changed.
Do other players on my server need Nightmare Fuel too?
No. Shader packs are client-side only, so it affects just your screen and doesn't need to be on the server. Friends without it see the normal game, which makes for a fun mixed horror session where only some players see the nightmare.
Can I use Nightmare Fuel together with another shader pack?
No, only one shader pack can be active at a time, so selecting another pack replaces Nightmare Fuel. You can still combine it with resource packs and ordinary gameplay mods.
My FPS dropped a lot with Nightmare Fuel on. What can I do?
Shader packs are much heavier than vanilla rendering, so lower your render distance and close other demanding programs. If a choppy frame rate on top of the distortion makes the game unplayable, test in a quiet area first to find settings your machine can handle.
What's the best way to set up a hardcore challenge with this pack?
Start a new Hardcore world with the shader already active. Before you commit, spend a few minutes in a throwaway survival world getting used to the distortion and lighting. Plan a quick way to toggle the shaders off in case the effects become physically uncomfortable mid-run.
