MinecraftShaderized Shaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on MinecraftShaderized Shaders?
You need Iris or OptiFine running. Open Options > Video Settings > Shader Packs, select MinecraftShaderized Shaders from the list, then click Apply or Done. If the pack isn't listed, make sure the file is in your shaderpacks folder and reopen the menu.
Do I need Iris or OptiFine, or can I use both?
Use one or the other. Iris and OptiFine conflict with each other, so running both usually causes crashes or prevents the shader menu from working.
Does the server need MinecraftShaderized Shaders installed?
No. A shader pack only changes how your own game renders the world, so it runs entirely on your client. You can use it on any server, and other players won't see your shaders.
Why do the shadows keep moving?
The pack casts soft shadows from the sun during the day and from the moon at night. As those move across the sky, the shadows on buildings and terrain shift direction with them, so they're longest around sunrise and sunset.
How do I get the best-looking water reflections and ripples?
Look across an open body of water rather than straight down. The surface shows reflections of the sky and nearby scenery, and animated wave ripples. A calm lake or ocean near your base is a good place to see the effect.
Why do my torches look orange now?
That's intended. The pack changes block lighting so torches and lanterns cast a warmer glow in dark areas, which gives caves and night-time bases a cozier tone.
Why does the sky look like a different color at different times of day?
The pack shifts the sunlight and ambient sky colors as the day goes on. Morning, noon, evening and night each have their own tone, and those day and night tones apply across all dimensions.
Does the shader change rain and clouds?
Yes. It adjusts rain and cloud visuals for cleaner weather scenes. Wait for a storm or use the weather command in a creative world to see the full effect.
My FPS dropped a lot after enabling the shader. What can I do?
Shadows and water reflections are the most demanding parts of any shader pack. Lowering your render distance usually gives the biggest gain. If that isn't enough, use Iris with Sodium for better performance, or switch the shader off while you're in busy areas like large farms.
The shader isn't doing anything and the world looks vanilla. What's wrong?
Check that the pack is actually selected and applied in the Shader Packs menu, not just sitting in the folder. Also confirm that Iris or OptiFine actually loaded. If the Shader Packs button is missing from Video Settings, your shader loader isn't installed correctly.
