CRShaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on CRShaders?
Go to Options > Video Settings > Shader Packs, select CRShaders from the list, then click Apply or Done. The world should reload with softer shadows and brighter, animated-film colors.
CRShaders isn't showing up in my shader pack list, what did I do wrong?
CRShaders is a shader pack, not a regular mod, so it belongs in the shaderpacks folder, not the mods folder. Use the Open Shader Pack Folder button on the Shader Packs screen, put the file there, and reopen the menu.
How can I tell if the Ghibli look is actually working?
Stand somewhere open in daytime with grass, trees or buildings in view. Shadows should have smooth, soft edges and colors should look clean and vibrant. The sky should look painted, with soft clouds instead of the plain vanilla sky.
Why are my shadows blurry instead of sharp?
That's intentional. CRShaders uses soft shadows to give grass, trees and buildings a smooth, hand-drawn look. If you want crisp, realistic shadows, you need a different shader pack.
Why doesn't night get very dark with CRShaders?
CRShaders uses custom ambient lighting that keeps nighttime and shaded areas warm and gentle rather than pitch black. This is part of the storybook style, not a lighting bug.
Do other players on a server need CRShaders to see it?
No. Shader packs only change how the game is drawn on your own screen, so it doesn't need to be on the server. Only players who have it installed and turned on will see the Ghibli style.
Where does CRShaders look best?
It looks best in bright daytime landscapes with grassy fields, trees and buildings under an open sky. The vibrant colors, soft shadows and painted clouds all show up together there.
CRShaders is lowering my FPS, what can I do?
All shader packs add extra work for your graphics card, so some FPS drop is normal. Lowering your render distance helps. You can also switch the shader pack off in the Shader Packs menu when you need maximum performance, then turn it back on for exploring or screenshots.
Can I use CRShaders with a resource pack?
Usually yes, since the resource pack changes the textures and CRShaders changes the colors, lighting and sky on top of them. Simple or soft-colored packs tend to suit the animated-film style better than highly realistic ones.
How do I take good storybook-style screenshots with CRShaders?
Pick a bright daytime scene and include some sky so the painted clouds are visible. Press F1 to hide the HUD, then press F2 to save the screenshot.
