Carrot Shaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on Carrot Shaders?
Carrot Shaders runs through a shader loader, either Iris or OptiFine. Put the pack in your shaderpacks folder, then open Options > Video Settings > Shader Packs, select Carrot Shaders, and apply it.
Do I need both Iris and OptiFine for Carrot Shaders?
No, you only need one of them. Pick either Iris or OptiFine and don't install both at the same time, since they conflict with each other.
How can I tell if Carrot Shaders is actually working?
In daylight, check whether blocks and terrain cast soft shadows and whether outdoor areas look warm and sunlit, especially at sunrise. Water should also appear slightly transparent with gentle light reflections. If the world looks exactly like plain vanilla, the pack isn't active.
Carrot Shaders doesn't show up in my shader packs list, what's wrong?
Make sure the pack is directly inside the shaderpacks folder and not nested inside another folder, which can happen after extracting a zip. Also confirm that Iris or OptiFine is installed and loading, because without a loader the Shader Packs menu won't list it.
Will Carrot Shaders make my game look totally different from vanilla?
No. It's designed to keep blocks in their natural vanilla colors and preserve the classic style. It adds soft shadows, warmer sunlight and fresher water rather than dramatic or flashy effects.
Is it too dark to see at night with Carrot Shaders?
Night scenes are kept clear enough to find your way around. The shader only changes how the world looks, though, not the game's actual light levels, so mobs still spawn in unlit areas and you still need torches.
Why does the water look so subtle? I expected big shiny reflections.
That's intentional. Carrot Shaders gives water subtle transparency and soft light reflections instead of bright, distracting effects, so it matches the vanilla look.
My FPS dropped after enabling Carrot Shaders, how do I fix it?
The pack is built to run smoothly, but shadows still cost performance. Try lowering your render distance and the shadow-related settings in your Iris or OptiFine video options. Closing other heavy programs while you play also helps.
Can I use Carrot Shaders on a multiplayer server?
Yes. Shaders are purely client-side, so it works on any server without the server or other players needing it. Only you will see the effect.
What's the best time of day to take screenshots with Carrot Shaders?
Sunrise and midday show off the warm sunlight and soft block shadows best. Shooting near water in good light also captures its transparency and reflections.
