Banana Shaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on Banana Shaders?
Open Options > Video Settings > Shader Packs and click Banana Shaders in the list so it is selected instead of OFF. Then click Done and let the game reload. Shader packs need a shader loader such as Iris or OptiFine, so the Shader Packs button only appears if one is installed.
How can I tell if Banana Shaders is actually working?
Wait for a sunset and look for warmer tones in the sky and softer-looking clouds. Then stand by the ocean and check for gentle reflections on the water. Daytime should also look brighter and more colorful than vanilla in every biome.
I picked Banana Shaders but my game looks exactly the same, what's wrong?
Go back to the Shader Packs screen and confirm Banana Shaders is highlighted as the active pack, not OFF. Also confirm the pack is in your shaderpacks folder and that your shader loader is running. If it still looks vanilla, restart the game and compare a sunset with shaders on and off.
Will Banana Shaders lag on my low-end laptop?
It is built to run smoothly on low-end and potato hardware, so most weak PCs can use it. If your framerate dips, lower your render distance and close other programs running in the background. Then toggle the shader off and on to see how much it actually costs you.
Do I need to put Banana Shaders on my server?
No. It only changes how the game looks on your screen, so it goes on your client only. Other players on the server don't need it, and it won't change the world for them.
Why are the water reflections so faint?
The reflections are meant to be subtle so water looks calm rather than mirror-like. They are easiest to see on large open stretches of sea, especially around sunset when the warm sky colors show on the surface.
Is the daytime supposed to look this bright and colorful?
Yes. Banana Shaders uses bright, fantasy-style daytime lighting in every biome on purpose. If you want a more dramatic mood, try playing or taking screenshots around sunset, when the tones turn warmer and softer.
When is the best time to take screenshots with Banana Shaders?
Sunset shows off the pack best, with warm sky tones, soft clouds and gentle reflections on the water all at once. Stand somewhere with an open view of both the sky and the sea for the strongest shot.
Can I use Banana Shaders with a resource pack?
Yes. Resource packs change block textures and Banana Shaders changes lighting, sky and water, so you can run both together. Keep in mind that the textures you pick will change how the overall colors look.
Is Banana Shaders good for long play sessions?
Yes. It aims for a calm, clean look with softened clouds and gentle water that is easy on the eyes. Because it is light on performance, it also won't overwork a weaker computer during long sessions.
