Aloo Shaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on Aloo Shaders?
Open Options > Video Settings > Shader Packs and click AlooShaders in the list, then click Done. This menu comes from a shader loader such as Iris or OptiFine, so you need one installed for the menu to appear.
How can I tell if Aloo Shaders is actually working?
Look at a torch, lantern or glowstone block, which should give off a noticeably warmer light color. Shadows across the terrain should also look softer, and sunlight and moonlight should feel clearly different from vanilla.
Does Aloo Shaders change my block textures?
No. It keeps the original block textures and only adds smooth lighting effects on top, so your world keeps its classic blocky look.
Will caves and forests be too dark to see with this shader?
Aloo Shaders is designed so caves and dark forests stay easy to explore. It adjusts visibility for clarity during both day and night, but you should still place torches or lanterns to keep mobs from spawning.
Which lights get the warm glow?
Torches, lanterns and glowstone get a warmer light color. You can use them as accent lighting to give your builds a cozy look, especially at night when the moonlight sets a different mood.
Aloo Shaders doesn't show up in my Shader Packs list, what do I do?
Make sure the pack file is in your shaderpacks folder and is still zipped. Use the button in the Shader Packs menu to open that folder and check. Also confirm that a shader loader is actually running, because without one there is no Shader Packs menu at all.
How do I go back to vanilla lighting?
Go to Options > Video Settings > Shader Packs and select OFF (or None, depending on your loader). Your world will instantly return to normal lighting, and nothing in your save is changed.
Do I need Aloo Shaders on the server too?
No. Shaders are purely visual and run only on your own game. You can use it on any server or realm, and other players won't need it or see any difference.
My FPS dropped after turning on Aloo Shaders, how do I fix it?
Shaders put extra load on your graphics card. Lowering your render distance is the quickest fix. Updating your graphics drivers and closing other heavy programs also helps, and you can switch shaders off whenever you need maximum performance.
Can I use Aloo Shaders with a resource pack?
Yes. Aloo Shaders doesn't replace textures, so your resource pack's textures still show with the shader's lighting and softer shadows applied over them.
