How do I open the Neat config menu in game?
Neat is configured through the Mods list rather than a hotkey — open the mods screen, select Neat, and click the config button to reach its settings. If your mod loader shows a separate configs menu, Neat's options also appear there.
How do I turn on health bars in Neat?
Health bars are enabled by default, so if you see nothing, check the config first to make sure the display isn't disabled or filtered. If it's on and still missing, see the guide on fixing Neat health bars not showing up.
Does Neat work on a server or is it client side only?
Neat is a client-side mod, so it renders health bars from information your client already receives and does not need to be installed on the server. That also means it works on vanilla servers, though some servers with strict rules may restrict it.
Why do health bars not show for some mobs?
Neat filters what it draws, so entities can be hidden by category or by specific type in the config. Check the entity filtering options and make sure the mob you're testing isn't excluded.
Can I make Neat only show health bars for mobs I'm fighting?
Yes — Neat has options that limit the overlay to entities you're targeting or that are hostile to you, rather than every entity nearby. Look for the display or filtering settings that control which entities qualify.
How do I change where the health bars appear on screen?
Neat's bars are drawn above each entity in world space, not as a fixed HUD element, so their position follows the mob rather than a screen corner. What you can adjust instead is the bar's size, spacing, and how much information it shows.
Does Neat work with other modded mobs?
Neat reads standard entity health, so most modded mobs get bars automatically without any extra setup. Mobs with unusual or non-standard health handling may display oddly or not at all.
Can I use Neat in a modpack without it breaking things?
Yes — because it's client-side and only reads health data, Neat is generally safe to drop into a modpack. Conflicts are rare and usually show up as overlapping nameplates with other UI mods rather than crashes.
Does Neat hurt performance with lots of mobs?
Neat is lightweight, but rendering many bars at once in crowded areas like mob farms can cost some frames. Reducing the number of entities shown or shortening the render distance for bars helps if you notice a drop.
How do I reset Neat back to default settings?
Open Neat's config screen and use the reset option to restore defaults, or delete its config file and let the mod regenerate it on next launch. Either way you'll get the original out-of-the-box behavior back.
