Citadel is a library mod. It adds no blocks, no items you can place, and no world generation. If you installed it expecting new content, that is why nothing changed. What it does is provide shared code that other mods depend on.
Why it is in your pack
When you see Citadel in a mod list, at least one other mod requires it. Removing Citadel will crash or break those mods on load. The reverse is also true: Citadel alone does nothing visible, so a pack containing only Citadel is effectively an empty pack.
What it provides to dependent mods
- A shared animation and model system, so mobs from different mods animate consistently.
- A common registration and configuration framework, reducing conflicts between mods.
- Shared entity and rendering utilities that authors would otherwise duplicate.
Practical implications for pack building
1. Never remove Citadel to "clean up" a pack — check which mods declare it as a dependency first.
2. When updating a Citadel-based mod, update Citadel alongside it; version mismatches are a common source of load failures.
3. If a dependent mod crashes on startup, Citadel is frequently the first suspect, but the actual fault is usually in the dependent mod's use of it.
4. Read the crash log's topmost Citadel-related line before assuming Citadel itself is broken.
