Getting Started

What you need:

  • 1 Filing Cabinet
  • Some Filing Folders
  • 1 Item Frame

The setup:

In this example, the setup consists of a filing cabinet being placed against a wall, so that a item frame can be placed above it. By putting a grass block in the item frame, you have set a filter to only being able to extract grass blocks from the filing cabinet, if possible.

To store grass blocks, craft a empty filing folder with grass block to create a new folder that will hold that block. With an empty hand, right-click the filing cabinet to open it up, then right-click it while holding the folder to store it in there. The filing cabinet will not take in empty folders.

To take a filing folder out of the cabinet, shift+rightclick with a empty hand to take out a folder that was put in last.

When there are either nothing being displayed in the item frame, or the item frame is missing, players will be unable to manually extract anything from the filing cabinets, so either an item frame must be used or some form of automation (E.G, hoppers or pipes). While automation can follow the rules of the filter, they can still work fine without any item frames present. When that happens, they will just take items from the first available slot, or use whatever filter they have built-in to take a certain item anyway.

Insertion:

  • Rightclick the filing cabinet with items in your hand to store it, if possible.
  • Double rightclick the filing cabinet to store all items in your inventory, if possible.
  • Using automation, like hoppers or pipes from other mods to insert items, if possible.

Extraction:

  • Leftclick/punch the filing cabinet to get one item from it, if possible.
  • Shift + leftclick/punch the filing cabinet to get up to a stack of the item, if possible.
  • Using automation, like hoppers or pipes from other mods to extract items, if possible.
