Mechanics

Automation and Integration

Real Filing Cabinet is designed to work seamlessly with other mods: * Hoppers: Items piped into the top of a cabinet will be sorted into matching folders. Items extracted from the bottom will be pulled from the folders. * Digital Storage: Use a Storage Bus (Applied Energistics 2) or External Storage (Refined Storage) on a Filing Cabinet to see all stored items in your main terminal. This is highly efficient as the cabinet only counts as one block but can hold millions of items. * Fluid Handling: With the Fluid Upgrade, the cabinet responds to standard fluid pipes and pumps.

Folder Management

To extract items manually, you can take the folder out of the cabinet and place it in a crafting grid. This will give you a stack of the item and return the folder (with the remaining balance) to the output slot.

Blocks

The mod adds several functional blocks to manage your filing system.

Filing Cabinet

The core block of the mod. It comes in all six vanilla wood types (Oak, Spruce, Birch, Jungle, Acacia, and Dark Oak). * Capacity: Each cabinet has 8 slots, but it only accepts Filing Folders. You cannot place loose items directly into the cabinet. * Interaction: Right-click to open/close the drawer. Shift-right-click with an empty hand to open the GUI. * Persistence: Breaking the cabinet with a pickaxe will drop the cabinet with all folders and items inside intact.

Folder Inserter & Extractor

These blocks are used for advanced automation, allowing for the specific insertion or removal of folders from cabinets without manual player intervention.

Items

Items in Real Filing Cabinet are divided into Folders (storage), Tools (management), and Upgrades (functionality).

Filing Folders

Folders are the primary storage medium. To assign a folder to an item, place an empty folder and the desired item in a crafting grid.

Tools

• Magnifying Glass: Used to inspect the contents of a cabinet without opening the GUI. It is also required to remove upgrades from a cabinet.
• Master Key: Used to lock a cabinet. Once locked, only the owner (or someone with a Key Copy) can access the contents. This is essential for the "Living Filing Cabinet" mechanic.
• Whiteout Tape: Used to reset an empty folder, allowing it to be assigned to a different item type.
• Suitcase: A portable version of the filing cabinet. It allows you to carry folders and interact with them as if they were in a block-based cabinet.

Cabinet Upgrades

Upgrades are applied by right-clicking a cabinet with the upgrade item.

• Ender Upgrade: Links the cabinet to the Ender network, allowing folders to be accessed across different cabinets.
• Creative Upgrade: Provides an infinite supply of whatever item is stored in the folders within that cabinet.
• Crafting Upgrade: Allows the cabinet to automatically craft items using the materials stored in its folders.
• OreDict Upgrade: Allows a folder to accept any item that matches the Ore Dictionary entry (e.g., any mod's Copper Ingot).
• Mob Upgrade: Automatically pulls nearby mobs into available Mob Folders within the cabinet.
• Fluid Upgrade: Converts the cabinet into a functional fluid tank.

Mobs

While the mod does not add naturally spawning mobs, it allows players to create a unique entity.

Living Filing Cabinet

By applying a Life Upgrade to a Filing Cabinet, it transforms into a Living Filing Cabinet.

• Behavior: If the cabinet is Locked with a Master Key, it will follow the player like a pet. If Unlocked, it will stay in its current position.
• Function: It acts as a mobile vacuum. It will automatically pick up any items dropped on the ground, provided there is a matching folder inside its inventory.
• Stats: It has high health and is immune to most environmental hazards. If it falls into the void, it will respawn at its original creation point.
• Reversion: To turn it back into a block, use a Magnifying Glass on it (Shift + Left Click).
