Into The Sling of Things

The Squishy Slingshot is the mod's answer for a bow-like implement that lets you toss squishable and splatable projectiles like Pinkly Eggs, Eggnades, Fetid Mulch, and disgusting Balls o' Manure with a bit more control than just spam-throwing. A slingshot also lets you toss some standard projectiles like splash potions with a bit more 'umphf' behind them. Note that by default you must have the VanillaFoodPantry mod (VFP) installed to craft some of the items shown below. In particular, the Elastic Hide Strap used to make the slingshot requires Animal Hide Straps from VFP.

The Slingshot

The slingshot itself is straightforward to make and while it has durability, you get over 700 uses without the added longevity of repair enchantments like Unbreaking and Mending. If you enchant the slingshot with the Power enchantment, the damage to the slingshot, per shot, is increased by 1 per level above Power II.

Crafting a Slingshot

The slingshot's body is a single item, the Sturd-Y Branch, that you get from chopping away at the leaves of a standard oak or birch tree with an axe. If you just break the leaf block or use a shearing tool, you won't break off a sturdy branch.

For the straps and pouch you need Animal Hide. You can cut straps from leather or rabbit hide using a piece of Red Flint. Then soak the straps in a bucket of Liquid Slime to create Elastic Hide Straps. For the pouch, any portionHide item will work. Read the Utility Items page for details.

Enchantment

You can enchant a slingshot with many of the same enchantments as a regular bow; for example, Power, Flame, and Punch. However, the enchantment's final effect depends on the ammo you're using. Additionally, you can add Efficiency to a slingshot; this enchantment will reduce the draw time of the slingshot up to 75% at level V and reduce any applied ammo cooldown period so it's well worth adding some level of efficiency if you can. Note that the Infinity enchantment has no effect on a slingshot; see the Economical enchantment for a less powerful version of Infinity for slingshots.

Squishy Ammo

Squishy Ammo on Display

PinklySheep let's you use any of its "throwable things" in a Squishies Slingshot. So for instance, you can use Lumiballs or ender pearls as ammunition in addition to the more obvious weapon-related choices like Eggnades. Also, the mod adds some new slingable ammo based on a few standard items that are a natural fit for the squishies slingshot; items like snowballs (Snowball Surprise: looks like a snowball, tastes like a snowball, hits like a truck) and chicken eggs (Rotten Eggs: they really do stink and are bad bad bad to the core). The things you can catapult from your portable catapult include:

  • Chicken eggs, Pinkly Eggs
  • Eggnades
  • Rotten Eggs (soakable)
  • Rocks, Stone Marbles (soakable), Stone Strikers
  • Snowballs, Snowball Surprises (soakable)
  • Fetid Mulch (soakable)
  • Slimeballs, Ricochet Slimeballs (soakable)
  • Piercing Marbles (soakable), Piercing Strikers
  • TnT Potatoes (soakable)
  • Balls o' Manure (soakable)
  • Firecharged Marbles
  • Meatballs-Z (soakable), Homing Meatballs-Z (soakable)
  • Lumiballs
  • Ender Pearls
  • Splash Potions, Lingering Potions

Scenario Tips

Marbles and strikers are the most effective and economical ammo for direct hit kills for hardened mobs; use small stones or meatballs for regular mobs. Bluff TnT potatoes are the most effective potion cloud delivery mechanism. A snowball surprise is custom made to really surprise blazes. To quickly kill everything within a known perimeter including spawners, use a Pinkly Eggnade or if you're short on eggnades, a bluff TnTato soaked with Pinkly Fury potion. To light caverns, dungeon hallways, mining shafts, etc. from a safe distance, use lumiballs. Finally, to just blow stuff up because 'reasons', use a explosive TnTato or Firecharged marble.

Cooldown Period

All squishy ammunition have a cooldown period. Note that this cooldown is not on the slingshot but on each type of ammo and that the value can differ from type to type. In general the cooldown is less than 1 second and isn't noticeable; however, more powerful ammo like Eggnades and TnT Potatoes can have noticeably longer cooldowns.

How does this characteristic impact you? Well if you're carrying different types of ammo for use with one slingshot, it's possible the slingshot will skip an ammo type if it's still in a cooldown period. So when you arrange your ammo, make sure you take cooldown into account.

Soakable Ammo

You can soak select ammo with potions and potion-mixes; any potions. Soaking lets you give "lamo ammo" like snowballs and eggs a bigger bite against the hostile mob hordes but it also lets you create very custom projectiles that are deadly effective against a particular mob or situation you're facing.

Crafting Potion-Soaked Dirty Snow Balls

To soak the ammo, simply put a standard brewed potion or mix in the center of a 3x3 crafting grid and surround with eight (8) of the throwable ammo to soak. The potion's effect and duration is split 8-ways between the items; nothing else about the ammo is changed. You can only soak ammo once, so if you want to combine potion effects, you'll need some mechanism to do that to the brewed potion directly. The Vanilla Food Pantry mod allows you to do this easily with its Moonshine Tonics which you can also custom-color to help highlight your different ammo.

Squishy Ammo Pouch

Unlike the standard bow and arrow setup, you need to put your squishy ammunition into a Squishy Ammo Pouch in your inventory (it does NOT have to be on your hotbar). A single pouch can hold up to 4 stacks of any kind of ammo and you can carry as many pouches as you like. If you do carry multiple pouches, the order in which the slingshot searches and ultimately picks a pouch is to first check your offhand, then your hotbar from left-to-right, then your main inventory from top-left slot to bottom-right slot, moving across then down sequentially. If you name a slingshot and an ammo pouch the same thing, the slingshot will only use items from that pouch (if the pouch is empty the slingshot will not fire, even if there are other pouches available).

Crafting an Squishies Pouch

The recipe above shows Animal Hide as the two ties for the pouch, but any string item will do. As of now, ammo pouches don't have durability but this may change in the future.

Enchantment

You can enchant an ammo pouch with the custom Economical enchantment. If you put this enchantment on an ammo pouch, there is a 10% chance per level that a particular shot will not actually consume the ammo item. Currently this is the only enchantment pouches allow.
