How does one get all the way down there.

Rope Ladders are something that the developers of Campanion believe Minecraft should have. Getting to the bottom of a ravine from the top, or collecting your vertical transport never seemed so easy. See Usage

You will need 6 rope and 3 sticks to craft a rope ladder. It's expensive but worth the materials.

Rope ladders work about how you'd expect them to in the real world. If you place a rope ladder at the top of a ledge it will "unroll" all the way down, or until you otherwise run out of rope ladders.

When you break the rope ladder, it will be "re-rolled" directly into your inventory.
