Guide: Getting Started

Calculator is a progressive mod with various aspects getting accessible as you move through the various Calculators. Therefore the four major stages of the mod are the Basic Calculator, Scientific Calculator, Atomic Calculator and Flawless Calculator, each unlocking different parts of the mod.

Here is a quick guide on how to get started with Calculator, although I won't be listing any recipes as the mod has hundreds so NEI (Not-Enough-Items) is essential

###Power Cube & Hand-Cranked Generator These two machines are a great place to start as they allow for some very basic power gen and a charging system which is required to progress through Calculator. You can place the generator directly next to the power cube and energy will be transferred between the two. In the Power Cube GUI you will notice two slots one with a '-' which is for removing energy and charging calculators and a '+' which is for adding energy to the machine and discharging calculators. These slots and symbols are consistent throughout the mod. There are also a number of items which can be placed in the discharge slot and are used up as energy you can find out more here.

###Calculator Once you have crafted you first Calculator you will need to charge it using the Power Cube. Now by right clicking the Calculator you can access its GUI which is used for combining two items together which opens up all the possibilities of the mod.

These are all the things you can create once you have a Calculator, although some require additional crafting/growing/smelting. Most of the things you can create at this stage are the basis of the whole mod and many will have improved versions as you progress through.

####Tools

  • Wrench
  • Sickle
  • Reinforced Stone Tools
  • Reinforced Iron Tools
  • Enriched Gold Tools

At this stage you can create some basic tools which subtly improve on the vanilla alternatives. The Wrench is useful for dismantling machines quickly and some interactions so is a useful thing to craft. If you want to get into Calculator Trees later on you should also grab a Sickle which is used for harvesting Pear and Diamond leaves.

Find out more about the tools here.

####Machines

  • Stone Separator
  • Stone Assimilator
  • Basic Greenhouse
  • Docking Station

The Stone Assimilator can crafted at this stage but can't be fully utilised until you have Scientific Calculator when I'll explain more. The Stone Separator can be used for short cutting otherwise fiddly Calculator recipes and will also have more use after you have the Scientific Calculator. The Basic Greenhouse is a great place to start with Crops in Calculator as a Basic crop growth environment. The Docking Station is used for automating Calculator Recipes if you have a hankering for Auto Crafting.

####Blocks

  • Lanterns
  • Scarecrow
  • Rain Sensor

The Scarecrow and Gas Lanterns are an important place to start in regard to Crop growth as both can be used to accelerate it, plus they look awesome! Their is also the Basic Lantern which can be used in replace of a torch and also the Rain Sensor which works in a similar way to the daylight sensor in vanilla.

  • Reinforced Stone
  • Reinforced Stone Brick
  • Reinforced Dirt
  • Reinforced Dirt Brick
  • Stable Stone
  • Stable Glass
  • Clear Stable Glass

At this stage you can create all the main building blocks of the mod including stable stone, the key decorative block of the mod and Reinforced Stone an essential crafting block so it will be worth grabbing a stack or two for later. Reinforced Dirt can be used instead of Stone. Find out more about the standard blocks here.

####Items

  • Reinforced Iron Ingots
  • Enriched Gold
  • Enriched Gold Ingot

Essential crafting items, also required to make tools. Enriched Gold Ingots are obtained by smelting Enriched Gold.

  • Enriched Coal
  • Broccoli Seeds
  • Broccoli
  • Cooked Broccoli
  • Baby Grenade
  • Prunae Seeds

Broccoli seeds can be crafted at this stage which will grow into Broccoli which can be smelted and turned to Cooked Broccoli, which is a potential food source for use with the Basic Greenhouse. Enriched Coal is a good starting fuel made with Redstone and Iron but later Calculators provide more powerful versions. The Baby Grenade is just a bit of fun, but is also required for crafting the full Grenade later on. Prunae Seeds will become useful when you have an Advanced Greenhouse as they give you the ability to grow fuel as Coal Dust which can then be combined to become Enriched Coal.

###Scientific Calculator Almost identical to the first Calculator but this gives you the divide function which enable you to create even more advanced items.

Again here is what you can create once you have this Calculator.
