Get the Best Lighting During Night Cycles

Understand Night Lighting Mechanics

Zer0's Shaders adjusts ambient brightness based on moon phase and time of night. Moonlight naturally illuminates your world, and placed light sources (torches, lanterns, glowstone) become more visually prominent.

Place Strategic Light Sources

Torches and lanterns now emit realistic bloom and cast proper shadows. Place them along paths and around your base to create natural lighting zones. The bloom effect makes these light sources feel more alive than vanilla.

Adjust Ambient Brightness Settings

If nights feel too dark or too bright, access the shader options and modify ambient brightness for night cycles. This setting controls how much moonlight and starlight contribute to overall visibility without affecting placed light sources.

Use Moon Phases to Your Advantage

Full moons provide more natural illumination. During new moons, rely more heavily on torches and lanterns. The shader responds dynamically to these cycles, so your lighting strategy should adapt.

Test Different Biomes

Some biomes receive different ambient lighting. Explore your world at night to see how shadows and bloom interact in forests, deserts, and caves. This helps you plan lighting for builds in specific locations.
