Wearable Items Data Pack FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start making wearable items?
Place a leather cap and any supported item together in a crafting grid using a shapeless recipe, then take the result from the output slot. The finished item will have a Wearable tag and can be equipped directly into your helmet slot.
What happens if I place a wearable item on the ground?
Placing a wearable item on the ground will cause it to lose its wearable tag and revert to a regular block or item, so always keep wearables in your inventory or equipped.
Do I need a resource pack for the custom head models to show?
No, the mod works completely in vanilla Minecraft without requiring any resource packs—the custom models display automatically.
Can I use wearable items if I remove the data pack later?
Yes, wearable items retain all their custom properties even if you remove the pack from your world, though they will no longer display as wearable headwear.
What items can I turn into headwear?
You can equip dozens of supported items including barrels, chests, flowers, dragon eggs, all wood types, glass variants, copper blocks, decorated pots, and many mob drops and redstone parts.
Are there colored variants of items?
Yes, colored variants are available for glass, glass panes, banners, and wooden items—craft each color separately with a leather cap to create different custom looks.
How do I craft the wearable ominous banner?
Combine an ominous banner with an ominous bottle in a crafting grid to create the wearable version, which can then be equipped as headwear.
Can I get spawners and vaults as wearable headwear?
Monster spawners, trial spawners, and vaults are available as creative-mode exclusive wearables and cannot be crafted in survival mode.
Do wearable items work in multiplayer?
Yes, the data pack works in multiplayer servers as long as the pack is installed on the server and all players have it loaded.
Will this mod cause lag or performance issues?
The mod uses only vanilla crafting mechanics and custom model data, so it has minimal performance impact on most systems.
