Optimize Performance for Smooth Gameplay

Reduce Voxel Resolution

Voxray's core feature—packing world geometry into shadowmaps for raytracing—scales with voxel resolution. If you experience frame drops, lower the voxel grid resolution first. This directly reduces the complexity of shadow calculations without disabling the shader entirely.

Disable or Lower Volumetric Lighting

Volumetric lighting effects are visually striking but expensive to compute. In shader options, reduce the volumetric light sample count or disable volumetric effects in specific conditions (like indoors or at night). This preserves the shader's core shadow quality while freeing GPU resources.

Limit Raymarching Distance

Raymarching calculations extend across your view distance. Reducing the maximum raymarching distance or shadow render distance lowers the number of rays cast per frame. Pair this with Iris's chunk render distance settings for balanced performance.

Monitor and Adjust

Use an FPS counter to track performance changes. Test in different biomes and times of day, as lighting complexity varies. Fine-tune settings incrementally rather than making large changes at once.
