Filling a Canteen

Craft a canteen first: Empty Leather Canteen is the earliest tier, upgrading through Empty Copper Canteen, Empty Iron Canteen, Empty Gold Canteen, Empty Diamond Canteen, and finally Empty Netherite Canteen. Fill any empty canteen at a water source to get its Water Canteen form — for example, a Copper Water Canteen. Drinking from a Water Canteen restores thirst but carries the risk of dirty water effects.

Upgrading to Purified Water

Run a filled canteen through a Water Purifier to convert it into a Purified Water Canteen of the same material, such as a Copper Purified Water Canteen or Diamond Purified Water Canteen. Purified canteens are the safe drinking option. You can also purify a single serving as a Purified Water Bottle using the same water_purifying process.

Canteen Tiers and Durability

Higher tiers hold more uses before breaking. Leather is the weakest; Netherite is the strongest. The Netherite Dirty Water Canteen exists as a distinct state, so keep an eye on which variant you are carrying. Always carry a spare Empty canteen so you can refill on the move rather than trekking back to base.
