How to Collect Water with the Rain Collector

Placing the Rain Collector

Craft a Rain Collector and place it outdoors with open sky above it. The block gathers water when rain falls, so it must not be covered by solid blocks. Leave the top exposed.

Using Collected Water

The Rain Collector fills over time during rain. Collect the water it gathers and use it to fill your Empty Canteens and empty bottles. Filling an Empty Leather Canteen, Empty Copper Canteen, Empty Iron Canteen, Empty Gold Canteen, Empty Diamond Canteen, or Empty Netherite Canteen at the collector gives you the matching Dirty Water Canteen.

Collected water is dirty, so run it through a Water Purifier before drinking. A Dirty Water Bottle becomes a Purified Water Bottle, and each Dirty Water Canteen becomes its Purified Water Canteen of the same tier. Set the Rain Collector near your Water Purifier so the loop is short: collect, purify, drink.

Build several Rain Collectors to gather faster during storms. In dry weather they produce nothing, so keep a reserve of Purified Water Canteens filled ahead of time. Pair the collector with canteens of a high tier such as Iron, Gold, Diamond, or Netherite to carry more water between refills.
