How to Get Started in The Twilight Forest

Making the Portal

You need a diamond to create the portal. Dig a 2x2 hole in the ground, fill it with water, and throw a diamond into the water. Lightning strikes and the water turns into a portal. Jump in to enter the Twilight Forest.

First Resources

Once inside, gather Canopy Tree Logs from the large canopy trees. Craft them into Canopy Planks, then make Canopy Stairs, Canopy Slab, Canopy Fence, Canopy Door, Canopy Trapdoor, Canopy Button, Canopy Pressure Plate, Canopy Sign, and Canopy Boat. These are your basic building and travel blocks.

Pick Blackberry, Blueberry, and Blightberry from their bushes. Eat them or craft them into a Berry Medley. Kill Boars for Beef Jerky ingredients and cook the meat. Find Bighorn Sheep for their drops.

Look for Canopy Tree Saplings and replant them to farm wood. Use a Canopy Drying Rack to dry items over time. Build a Canopy Chest to store loot.

Early Progression

Your first goal is to find a Hedge Maze or Hollow Hill. Inside you will find Castle Brick, Bold Castle Brick Pillar, Bold Castle Brick Tile, and Bold Castle Brick Stairs. Break these for building materials. Look for Blue Castle Doors and Blue Castle Rune Bricks deeper in.

Collect Armor Shard and Armor Shard Cluster from mobs. These are used to craft Knightmetal gear later. Find Ironwood and Steeleaf to make Block of Ironwood and Block of Steeleaf.

Craft a Blank Magic Map to reveal the terrain around you. Craft a Blank Maze Map or Blank Maze/Ore Map to locate dungeons. These maps fill in as you explore.

Find a Canopy Bookshelf in dungeon chests. Use it to store books or as decoration. Collect Banner Pattern for banners.

When you find a Boss Spawner such as the Alpha Yeti Boss Spawner, prepare before activating it. Bring good armor, food, and a weapon.
