Terra Firma Rebirth 2 Modpack FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I make my first tools?
Pick up loose stones from the ground and use the knapping recipe to craft them together into sharp flakes and blades. These primitive stone tools are fragile but essential for harvesting wood, stone, and other early-game materials.
What do I do if I'm starving and thirsty at the start?
Hunt animals or gather berries and seeds from grass for food, and drink from water sources like rivers and lakes directly or by crafting containers. Cooking raw meat over a fire makes it more nutritious and safer to eat.
How do I build a charcoal pit?
Stack logs in a specific pattern (check your quest book for the exact layout), then cover the outside with dirt or sand and light it on fire. The pit will burn for a long time and produce charcoal, which you collect by breaking it apart once it cools.
Why can't I smelt copper in a regular furnace?
Terra Firma Rebirth 2 requires a Stone Furnace or Bloomery to process ores—vanilla furnaces don't work for this mod's custom smelting recipes. Build a Stone Furnace early on and fuel it with charcoal to start smelting copper and other metals.
How do I progress to the next era?
Complete the quest book tasks for your current era to unlock recipes and knowledge for the next one. Each era introduces new materials, machines, and mechanics that build on what you've already learned.
What's the point of temperature management?
Your body temperature affects your health and survival—too hot or too cold and you'll take damage or lose hunger faster. Build shelter, wear appropriate clothing, and use fires or shade to stay in a safe temperature range.
How do I get started with automation?
Build a Water Wheel near flowing water to generate mechanical power, then connect it to gears and machines using shafts. This powers basic production like grinding grain or pumping water without manual effort.
Can I skip the quest book and just play freely?
The quest book is designed to guide you through custom recipes and mechanics, but you can explore at your own pace—just note that many recipes aren't obvious and the book is the main way to learn them.
What happens to food if I don't eat it quickly?
Food spoils over time, especially cooked meat and prepared dishes, so you need to eat regularly or preserve food through smoking, salting, or other methods. Plan your meals and storage carefully to avoid waste.
How do I build an airship?
Airships require materials and knowledge from the mid-game eras—work through the quest book to unlock the recipes and understand the assembly process. Once built, they use physics-based flight mechanics to let you travel across the world.
