Structure Explorer Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start using Structure Explorer?
Just walk, sprint, or fly into any generated structure in your world—the mod automatically detects it. You'll hear a chime sound and see a chat message confirming the discovery. Type /explorer to view your personal list anytime.
Why isn't the mod detecting structures I walk into?
Check that trackInstances is enabled in your config file, and verify the checkIntervalMs value isn't set too high (default is 5000 milliseconds). If you're moving very fast, increase the frequency of checks by lowering this number.
Can I see exactly where I found a structure?
Yes—type /explorer instances to view all your recorded visits with coordinates and timestamps for that structure type.
How do I check if I was the first to find something?
Type /explorer structure to see which players discovered that structure and in what order. If showNthDiscoverer is enabled in config, you'll also get a chat badge when you're the first finder.
What's the difference between a structure type and an instance?
A structure type is a category (like a specific dungeon or village), while an instance is each individual location where that structure spawns. The mod tracks both separately so you can see how many times you've found the same structure type.
Does the mod work with modded structures and custom worldgen?
Yes—Structure Explorer automatically scans and logs both vanilla and modded buildings without any extra setup required.
Can server owners customize how structure names appear?
Yes—admins can use /explorer reload after editing the config to customize display names, prefixes, suffixes, and hex colors for any building namespace.
How do I view another player's discoveries?
Type /explorer player to see their full list of visited structures, or /explorer playerinstances if you're an operator viewing their specific visits.
Will the mod slow down my server?
The mod checks for new structures every few seconds (configurable via checkIntervalMs), which has minimal impact. If performance is a concern, you can increase the check interval to reduce frequency.
Can I turn off the discovery sounds?
Yes—in the config file, set sounds.newDiscoverySound and sounds.newInstanceSound to false to disable sound notifications while keeping chat messages.
