Survive the First Mound and Delay Infection Spread

Prepare for Impact

When you start a new world, the REDNIGHT mound will fall from the sky near your spawn point. This is inevitable—you cannot destroy it. Instead, your goal is to buy time before the infection consumes your base.

Immediate Actions

1. Locate the mound as soon as it lands. Watch the sky or listen for the impact.

2. Run perpendicular to it rather than in a straight line—this makes it harder for Proto Hiveminds to predict your position.

3. Establish a temporary base at least several chunks away from the mound's location. The infection spreads outward in a radius, so distance is your primary defense.

4. Mark the mound's location mentally or with a waypoint so you can monitor its growth rate.

Long-Term Containment

The infection will eventually reach you. Use axes to rapidly clear infected biomass blocks near your structures before they spread further. Infected creatures do not despawn when you leave, so they will continue expanding territory. Consider building your permanent base in a direction away from the mound's current edge, and be prepared to relocate if the spread accelerates.
