How to Unlock Your First Spell Tier

Gather Your Materials

Before you can cast any spell, you need to unlock at least one tier in a magic school. Collect the following:

• Experience points – gain these by mining, defeating mobs, or other normal Minecraft activities
• Matching school ink – find ink bottles that correspond to the magic school you want to unlock (e.g., Evocation ink for Evocation spells)
• A discovered spell – you must have already absorbed a codex page or scroll from that school into your codex

Unlock the Tier

1. Press your action bar key (default: ` ``) to open the Spell Codex interface

2. Navigate to the magic school containing your discovered spell

3. Locate the tier you wish to unlock – it will show the experience and ink cost

4. Place the matching ink bottle into the lower slot next to the tier

5. Click the + button to spend your experience and unlock the tier

Tip: If you hold a matching school focus item while unlocking, you'll receive a 25% experience discount on that unlock.

Once unlocked, the spell becomes available to assign to your action bar slots.
