How to Change Backpack Color and Manage Its Contents

Changing the Appearance

Open the backpack interface and look for the color controls. From there you can recolor the backpack so you can tell multiple backpacks apart at a glance. This is a cosmetic change and does not affect storage or upgrades.

Moving Items In and Out

To put items in, open the backpack and shift-click from your inventory, or drag stacks into the storage grid. To take items out, shift-click back into your inventory. If you want the backpack to do the moving for you, install a Deposit Upgrade or Advanced Deposit Upgrade to push items in, and a Restock Upgrade or Advanced Restock Upgrade to pull items back to your hotbar. The Pickup Upgrade, Advanced Pickup Upgrade, Magnet Upgrade, and Advanced Magnet Upgrade bring in nearby drops without manual clicks.

Keeping Contents Under Control

Use a Filter Upgrade or Advanced Filter Upgrade to decide what the automation upgrades are allowed to move. Use a Void Upgrade or Advanced Void Upgrade to discard items you do not want. Stack upgrades — Stack Upgrade Starter Tier through Stack Upgrade Tier 4 and Stack Upgrade Omega Tier — let each slot hold more, and the Stack Upgrade Conversion items let you raise a stack upgrade's tier without starting over.

Upgrading the Backpack Itself

The backpack tier can be raised from Backpack to Copper Backpack, Iron Backpack, Gold Backpack, Diamond Backpack, and Netherite Backpack using the tier-upgrade recipes. Higher tiers give more room for both items and upgrades.
