How do I start leveling skills?
Begin performing everyday survival tasks: mine stone and ore, chop wood, fish, fight mobs, or craft items. Each action grants skill XP based on the block hardness, tool used, or mob defeated. Check your skill levels anytime by pressing Tab to see your progress.
Why can't I equip this armor or tool?
Gear is locked behind skill level requirements—check the item's tooltip to see which skill and level you need. For example, Diamond armor might require Defense level 40, so you'll need to wear armor and take damage to level that skill first.
What's the difference between Ironman mode and normal mode?
Ironman mode is hardcore permadeath with custom penalty modifiers, meaning death has severe consequences and you can lose progress. Normal mode lets you respawn without penalties, making it ideal for casual progression and leaderboard climbing without high stakes.
How does the prestige system work?
Once you reach level 99 in a skill, you can reset it through prestige to earn a prestige counter and start leveling from 1 again. This is purely for bragging rights and leaderboard competition—you keep any gear you've unlocked, but the skill level resets.
How do I train Prayer?
Right-click rare plants or items onto a lit candle to sacrifice them and gain Prayer XP. Higher Prayer levels unlock long-term status buffs that persist across sessions, making it worth investing in early.
Does this mod require clients to install anything for multiplayer?
No—Simpleskills Mod runs entirely server-side, so multiplayer clients don't need to install extra files. Everyone on the server will see leaderboards and skill levels automatically.
Can I move the skill HUD to a different spot on my screen?
Yes, press J in singleplayer to enter HUD positioning mode and drag the skill display to your preferred location. Use `/simpleskills togglehud` to turn the HUD on or off entirely.
What happens if I level Fishing high—does it actually change my catches?
Yes, higher Fishing levels make catches up to 49.5% faster and unlock better treasure tiers, so you'll reel in rarer loot more frequently. The speed boost is noticeable and rewards patience.
Can I see leaderboards for specific skills?
Use `/simpleskills leaderboard ` to view the top players for any skill, or `/simpleskills leaderboardironman ` to see Ironman rankings. The leaderboard also appears in your Tab menu showing all players' levels across all fifteen skills.
Do I need to restart the server to apply config changes?
No—use `/simpleskills reload` to instantly reload all configuration files without restarting. This lets you adjust multipliers, tool requirements, and other settings on the fly.
