Storing Gems and Silver Efficiently

Compressing into Blocks

Every gem has a Block form: Alexandrite Block, Ammolite Block, Aquamarine Block, Black Diamond Block, Carnelian Block, Citrine Block, Garnet Block, and the rest. Silver has Block of Silver, and Chaos Essence has Block of Chaos Essence. Compress nine of a gem into its Block to cut storage space to a ninth.

Blocks are also the practical unit for building. If you are short on a gem for a project, break down a Block back into nine gems rather than mining more.

Organizing the Storage Room

Give each gem family its own column of chests: one chest for the raw gem, one for the Block, one for Bricks and Small Bricks, one for Tiles and Chiseled, and one for Glass and Lamp. With twenty gem families this fills a wall, but it means you never search for a block again.

Keep Block of Silver and Block of Chaos Essence in a separate section, since they feed different crafting chains than the decorative gem blocks. Put a crafting table and a furnace at the end of the row so you can convert between gem and Block without walking back to your main workshop.
