How to Find and Mine Chaos Ore

Locating the Ore

Chaos Ore generates underground and drops Chaos Essence when mined. Deepslate Chaos Ore is the deepslate variant found at lower depths. Both require a pickaxe of sufficient tier to harvest, so bring at least an iron pickaxe before descending.

Search in the same Y-levels where you would normally find rare overworld ores. Deepslate Chaos Ore appears in the deepslate layer, so branch mining below Y=0 is the most reliable method. Bring torches, food, and a spare pickaxe.

Processing What You Find

Once you have Chaos Essence, you can compress nine of them into a Block of Chaos Essence for compact storage. The block can be crafted back into nine Chaos Essence when you need the raw material again.

Chaos Essence is the core ingredient for the mod's higher-end gear and blocks, so stockpile it rather than spending it immediately. If you are also mining for gems, keep an eye out for Deepslate Silver Ore in the same deep layers — silver feeds into a separate crafting chain and is worth grabbing while you are already underground.

Mark your richest Chaos Ore veins with a torch or a distinctive block so you can return with a Fortune-enchanted pickaxe later.
