Distinguish Between Similar-Looking Blocks While Mining

Identify Blocks Quickly During Mining

When mining in caves or strip-mining, similar-looking blocks can be hard to tell apart. The outline shader helps you identify your target before breaking it.

Mining Workflow

1. Point your crosshair at a block you're unsure about

2. The outline will highlight it clearly, making it easier to see the exact block type

3. Check the block name in your debug screen (F3) if you need confirmation

4. Break only the blocks you intend to mine

5. This prevents accidentally destroying valuable ore or important structural blocks

Practical Scenarios

  • Distinguish between stone variants (granite, diorite, andesite) and ore blocks
  • Avoid breaking support blocks in caves by clearly seeing what you're targeting
  • Identify deepslate blocks versus regular stone in deep mining
  • Spot valuable ore blocks that blend into cave walls
  • The outline makes it impossible to accidentally hit the wrong block when swinging your pickaxe
